David Wolske, local designer and letterpress genius (and I don’t use that term lightly), made the exhibit cards for Cara and Mary’s upcoming “Into the White” exhibition. His beautiful design captures so much about what art lovers can expect from the show. The minimalist design, like Cara and Mary’s art pieces, emphasizes the power of negative space and employs vertical rule to give a nod to Kayo’s long, tall gallery. The black-on-white type imitates the graphite-on-paper foundations of Cara and Mary’s works. And the metallic silver ink used for the exhibit’s title and date range foreshadow Cara’s use of silver wash throughout her pieces.
And to make things better, David posted pictures and stories of the process on his exceptional Letterpress Daily blog. Click here to read about the first day of printing. And click here to read about the second day of printing. From the stories, it sounds like the printing came with plenty of roadblocks, but the finished product is breathtaking. Big thanks to David Wolske — keep your eyes peeled for his upcoming exhibit at Alchemy Coffee in Salt Lake City.
